Baby Shower?

Normally, I don’t attend baby showers.  OK, I have been to a few, but it’s normally something I’m just not invited to.Well my luck changed this last weekend as my friend  from Spirit FM radio invited me to “Missouri’s Biggest Baby

My buddy Karen Dye and I at Schnucks for the Spirt FM "Biggest Baby Shower"

My buddy Karen Dye and I at Schnucks for the Spirt FM "Biggest Baby Shower"

Shower”.  Karen was celebrating (as she always does) just one simple little thing – life.  Karen and her helpers collected LOTS of STUFF – good things, for expectant Mothers and for various organizations that help support women who need just a little extra to get through those trying times a new birth can bring.  Yes, as Claudia and I know, along with the joy of a birth comes dirty diapers, and extra mouth to feed, and a few other things.  I still don’t know how those little bitty babies spit up like they do.  I would not change a thing – all of these blessings come with the turf, I’m just glad we have someone – several someones – here in Central Missouri who help with these needs.

Karen – thanks to all you and Spirit FM do for all of us, plus a HUGE thank you to Schnuck Markets for hosting your event. And a special thanks for the invite to the Baby Shower!

It’s Basketball Time

This week, our city plays host to two annual Holiday Basketball Tournament’s.  The Boys tournament is the Mike Kehoe Great 8, which I have been involved with for 12 years now, and has seen 61 different teams from 11 different States.   The Lady’s will play in the Unilever Lady Jays Classic, showcasing 8 teams from Missouri and other neighboring states.  Games begin Monday December 28th and go through Wednesday the 30th (click the image to the left and get all the details).  These tournaments go off without a hitch, and they have become know as the premier High School basketball tournaments in the Mid-West.   It’s a great time of the year for Jefferson City to “show it’s stuff” as we will have thousands of visitors in town to see some of the best boys and girls basketball games you’ll find.  Our city does a great job, but the volunteers who organize this event and put in more hours than most will ever know are the ones who deserve the credit – great people who work hard to put on a great event.  They are a class act.  The 3 days of activity also show off many corporate sponsors who help make this event the success it is – from local hotels, to restaurants, to banks, and yes, even a car dealer.  A proud Ford, Lincoln/Mercury car dealer i might add.  Come check out the games and events during the tournament – even of you don’t like basketball, you will enjoy the time you spend at these games.  I’ll bet my name on it.

Help the fight

I have an easy way for you to help the fight against breast cancer, and all it takes is a trip around the block!  Through the end of the year, Ford Motor breastcancer[1]Company will donate $20.00 and Mike Kehoe Ford will match it with another $20.00 towards breast cancer research with the test drive of any new Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury.  That’s all it takes to get forty bucks donated to this fight that is affecting thousands of women all over the world every day.

All you have to do is go to www.mikekehoe.com and click on the pink box with the ribbon on it. You’ll find a registration form that you can fill out and bring into our dealership.  If you don’t have time, just come on in and we will register you right here and then let you drive one of our new products.

2010 Lincoln MKT
2010 Lincoln MKT

This is perfect timing I might add.  I have written about the all new 2010 Ford Taurus, and the all new Ford F-150, but there is more here to see, like the 2010 Ford Fusion, the 2010 Lincoln MKZ, the all-new 2010 Ford Mustang, and of course, our new flag ship vehicle the all new 2010 Lincoln MKT.  It’s an all-wheel drive, 7 passenger “super cool” entry from Lincoln that will blow your mind!  I like to tell people “Ford has a plan, and the plan is working”.

If you have not come by and looked at the new products we have, and the safety, quality & value they offer your family, then you are missing the boat.  Plus, now you get to help out the fight against breast cancer – it’s a “win /win” for everyone.

I called him Mr. Sinclair

It’s been over a month, and I still struggle to find the proper way to write about my friend, mentor, and business partner Dave Sinclair.  He died on Friday, September 25th, 2009.  I learned more about life from this man than most

Mr. Sinclair was always "teaching" - this time to his son David
Mr. Sinclair was always “teaching” – this time to his son David

will ever know.  He gave me the opportunity to become someone, but warned I should never forget my roots.  He never did, that’s for sure.  I learned how to work, how to manage, how to treat people, how to appreciate people, how to pray, how to love, how to ride a horse, and of course, how to use a paper plate as something to write a note on.

A newspaper columnist interviewed me the day after his passing, and asked how I would best describe him.  My answer was immediate, “He was John Wayne and Ronald Reagan all in one”.   The columnist said “Wow, had you ever met John Wayne or Ronald Reagan?” and I said “Yes I had, and his name was Dave Sinclair”.

Lots of folks looked at this man like he was bigger than life, and although he was, he never thought he was.  He was bigger than life to me, I would not be here without him.  People would ask him at various events “do you know Mike Kehoe?” and Mr. Sinclair would say “yes I do, I taught him everything he knows… which is only half of what I know”.  That response is typical of  the classic things he was made of.

The Sinclair family has done many things for me, including teaching me how to sell Fords, introducing me to Claudia, and always keeping a watchful eye on my Mother.  I miss him every day, and I know his family and wife (I call her “Mrs. Big”) do as well.  He was referred to as Dad, or “paup” by his kids and grandkids, and most who knew him and worked for him just called him Dave, but for some reason,  I always called him Mr. Sinclair, and he will always be that to me.

A “Tough Truck” for the “Tour”

Charlie Kruse, Missouri Farm Bureau President & I with the F-150 Tour of Missouri Truck

Mike Kehoe and Charlie Kruse, Missouri Farm Bureau President, with the F-150 Tour of Missouri Truck

We were honored to partner with our friends at the Missouri Farm Bureau for the second year in a row, by providing a 2009 F-150 Super Crew to use as the lead truck of the 2009 Tour of Missouri bike race.  Farm Bureau is a major sponsor, and they needed a tough, reliable truck to perform the task – the ALL-NEW 2009 F-150 Super Crew fit their needs perfectly.  But, Farm Bureau and I wanted more, so we had a local shop “wrap” the truck with a new look.  The truck looks fantastic, and folks from all over the state got to see what Ford Motor Compny does best – build great vehicles.  I have driven trucks since I was 16, and this new truck from Ford is awesome.  Period!

It’s Here and It’s Awesome!

The all NEW 2010 Ford Taurus

The all NEW 2010 Ford Taurus

For almost a year, the automotive press and just about every major newspaper has been touting the all-new 2010 Ford Taurus.  When I say “touting” I mean they have been in love with this car.  Well, it’s time for you to come find out about all the excitement.  We started getting the 2010’s in over the last few days, and you wont believe this car – it’s not anything like what you would think as far as styling when you hear the word Taurus, but is is all about the reliability, safety, and durability you think when you hear that name.  And styling - I predict this car will win all of the major awards for “cool”, “awesome”, & “incredible” that the world can give out.  Gas mileage is 28 on the highway – that’s unbelievable, the Ford exclusive Safety Canopy is standard, and the price is THOUSANDS lees than the other cars in its class.  Of course, the class is about to be left behind.  You will want to come in and check this out – i would suggest Mike Kehoe Ford, 807 Southwest Blvd., Jefferson City MO,  or at www.mikekehoe.com

Prayer Force One – It’s Awesome!

Ed More, founder of Prayer Force One greets me in front of the State Capitol

Ed Moore, founder of Prayer Force One greets me in front of the State Capitol

This morning I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Ed Moore aboard his one of a kind bus – Prayer Force One.  Ed and his wife Sandy are in town for the Capitol Christian Concert, which is a great all day event that has been going on now for several years right on the lawn of the Capitol.  Ed and his wife are delightful folks, who are very down to earth.  they have logged over 12,000 miles on the bus, using it for various Christian festivals all over the United States, including a trip to Washing DC for the National Day of Prayer.  Pray Force One is more than just a bus, it’s a place to relax, reflect, and visit.  I really enjoyed spending time with Ed – he is a former State Senator from Oklahoma, and has been involved with various ministries for most of his life.  He and Sandy are salt of the earth people, and I know our paths will cross again in the future.

2009 United Way Campaign

I made a recent television appearance on Pepper & Friends with Linda McAnany to promote the 2009 United Way Campaign.

I made a recent television appearance on Pepper & Friends with Linda McAnany to promote the 2009 United Way Campaign.

The 2009 United Way campaign is about to take off!  Yes, it’s the time of year when 1000’s of people in Central Missouri will open their hearts to help the 25 agencies our Central Missouri United Way serves – over 8,000 people donated to last year’s campaign, and with any luck, this year will be over that.

The United Way is about me and you, it’s about helping over 90,000 people here in our back yard, and yes, just a dollar here and a dollar there is what will help us make our goal.   Linda McAnany and I appeared on the “Pepper & Friends” show this past Monday, and Paul was very kind in giving us the opportunity to tell our story about this year’s campaign.

A special thanks goes out to the other co-chairman of this year’s campaign, my friend Warren Krech & to the dozens of volunteers that make up our campaign leadership team and are doing much of the heavy lifting out in the community for us – you guys are awesome!

Our kick off is set for Thursday, September 3rd.  Tickets are available by calling the United Way office in Jefferson City at: 573-636-4100. For more information about this year’s campaign and all of the good things the United Way and its member agencies do, please go to www.unitedwaycemo.org

Submarine Ball

I had the opportunity to meet Captain Ed Andresen, of the USS Jefferson City

I had the opportunity to meet Ed Anderson, Commander of the USS Jefferson City

Welcome, Navy Submarine Veterans!  Our Capital City hosted a great event tonight, it was the Submarine Ball which honored submarine vets from WWII to present.

The event was held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel, and was a huge success!  The evening event was also a fundraiser for the new USS Missouri, SSN 780, and my buddy Sam Bushman who is the chairman if the USS Missouri Commissioning Committee organized the event – he and his wife Linda worked their tails off to make sure everything at the event was “smooth sailing”.

Many guests were there from all over the world who have served and are serving for the US Navy.  We had a special treat as members of both the USS Missouri Crew and the USS Jefferson City were on hand for this special event.  I got to spend time with Dale Green, the Commander of the Missouri, and Ed Anderson, the Commander of the Jefferson City.   These vessels have FANTASTIC people as part of their crews, and it really made me proud to be with them.

Of course a special shout out to Herman Smith who we honored for 67 years as a submariner – an absolutely incredible man, who beamed with pride.  Herman was one of several – yes several — vets there from WWII, and all of these guys are truly “the Greatest Generation”.

My buddy George Bruss and Ed Irwin held a “tolling of the bell” ceremony which remembered and honored the men who have served and did not make it back of Submarines from the last 100 years.  It was very moving, something I never experienced at an event like this.

Special guest also included Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, Rebecca Gates (wife of Secretary of Defense, Robert M. Gates) the sponsor for the USS Missouri, and of course our own Mayor John Landwehr and the first lady of Jefferson City, Peggy Landwehr.

About the Paper Plate

Welcome to Mike’s Paper Plate – I hope you enjoy seeing and reading what I’m up to including hot topics at the dealership, community events, and maybe a opinion post here and there.

But first – why in the heck do I write notes on paper plates?  My automotive career started at Dave Sinclair Ford almost 30 years ago washing cars and trucks for Mr. Sinclair as a teenager.  The big guy never really needed a clear way to communicate with people, when he spoke, you listened, and so did others.  But, to keep track, Mr. Sinclair would scribble notes on a paper plate – he liked them because you could always see them on his desk, in his truck, or in his pocket. I quickly learned that having a paper plate in my pocket gave me an “in” with the managers at the dealership because they thought I had a note from Mr. Sinclair.  I eventually started using the plate for notes myself, and well, I never stopped.  Even my Blackberry can’t replace the basics I learned with Mr. Sinclair – write it down, do it, scratch it off.

This site is in appreciation to all the people I have met in life who have helped me out – there have been many, and everyone needs folks to give them a chance.  Not everyone gets to have a Dave Sinclair in their life, and for that, I will always be greatful.  I hope you enjoy this blog!
